i think that skunks are adorable! my old manager used to own one as a pet but i havnt been able to find anything on trying to get one. (glads removed of course) does anyone know of where I could find a skunk to own as a pet??A skunk as a pet?
Skunks make wonderful pets. We had 2 Pepe %26amp; Flower for over 10 years. They passed away 3 days apart in there sleep from old age. They are just like having a cat. They run about $100 to 150 last I knew. We got ours when mother was killed by car and babies ran under our car.
All you have to do is web search pet skunks.A skunk as a pet?
Well...doing your research on skunks before you get one is smart! They are not for everyone, but are an awesome pet if you know what your dealing with.
Please remember this is still, and always will be, a wild animal. They CANNOT be domesticated. No matter how long you have this skunk, if it gets a clear shot of outside, it's gonna bolt. And it will NOT come back. At least 5 different people I know have had their skunks run out the front door, after owning them for years, and they do not come back....
Do you realize you have to have a permit to own this skunk? While it might not seem like a big deal, if the skunk needs a veterinarian, you won't find a vet that will treat your pet unless you can show a permit. You can get one fairly easily on line for about $50.
One of the biggest screw ups I have seen in pet skunks is over feeding the poor thing. Skunks will eat as much as you give them...doesn't matter how much. Give them 20 pounds of cat food a day, they will eat it. They will eat until they are so obese they can't walk and have to be put down at the vet...true story. A good cat food is what you can feed it. Please research to see how much a day it should be eating.
The last thing I can think to share with you is that skunks love to cuddle with you and play with toys. They will sleep right in the bed with you. Just like a dog. They are sooo cool. But, remember this is still gonna be a wild animal. Good luck finding a skunk owner that has not been bit. They get crabby, and sooner or later you have a good chance at experiencing a skunk bite. The bites are nasty. They hurt. Be patient and remember, it's in their nature. It's kinda like ridding horses, if your gonna be around horses, sooner or later, your gonna get throwed or kicked. Just comes with the territory. A small price to pay for being around animals we love so much.
Good luck to you!
First of all, Skunks or wild animals are NOT pets.Try getting something else....like a bird, lizard, oh yah, and a bunny suites the skunk thing. So a rabbits close enough.
a friend of mine found his when the mother was hit by his car... actually there were 4 of them.. he kept one and gave the rest away...glands removed at the vets..
Well my friend had a pet skunk that was willed away to him. I LOVED it, so i looked into one. It turns out, it would be less expensive to like fly to Paris. If you like skunks that smell, then their cheep. But other than that, consider buying a new car, it would be less expensive.
