My dog got skunked, how to clean face?

The Bruce cleaned up pretty well but we could not get the soap and tomato juice near his eyes and ears for any length of time without irritation. Any idea how to clean this sensitive area a little better? Also, He rubbed skunk on the carpets - suggestions on how to get that smell out?My dog got skunked, how to clean face?
Please don't think i'm trying to be gross, but the same thing happened to my pup last summer. I called the vet for some suggestions because the tomato juice just wasn't cutting it. The vet recommended that I use baby powder scented douche. I know it sounds gross, but if you take a washcloth and saturate it with the douche, and wipe it on the dog's face, and any other area that might be still stinky, it will take care of it. My dog still smelled like baby powder, which is a bit odd, but much better than skunk! I'm not sure if it will work on the carpet, but i would just test it on a unnoticable section first to make sure it doesn't stain, and then go for it. Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me!!My dog got skunked, how to clean face?
you can try lemon
I once heard of a couple of good ol' boys who hit a skunk while out doin' D%26amp;D (drinkin' and drivin'). They once heard that smoke from burning pine branches would neutralize skunk odor. So they built a fire under their truck. Now if you build a fire under your dog... Uh, wait a minute, I think the guys ended up frying their truck.

All kidding aside, check the recipes below... they sound promising (and some a bit bizzare). Also, if you find an enzyme-based cleaner, you might try that as well.

Good luck!
A mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 Hydrogen Peroxide - you can use this to flush the eyes, and/or wash near them.

As for you carpet, carpet shampoo and a great scrubbing.
tomato paste and a bath in tomato juice
at walmart they have this rug cleaner for 7.00 and it works really good
You should sprinkle a box of baking soda on the carpet in the smelly area and leave it for a few of hours, then vacuum really well. It should take care of the smell in the carpet. Maybe a little baking soda mixed with water on a washcloth will work for your dog also. I would start with just a small amount though, so it doesn't get in his eyes.
There is a product they call Natures miracle (Available at Petco or any other petsmart, or that type of store) that has a specific product in their line that deals with skunking. They have one to wash the dog and another to wash the carpet. The Petco near me has a specific grooming that deals with pets that have been skunked - I would highly recommend it - also if you don't have a Petco groomer near you I am sure that a reputable groomer would also have this service.
Use Borscht
Tomatoe juice (pure). And I would reccomend going to the pet store and getting the petastic/nature's miracle skunk out, it really works. Soooo not a fun problem, been there before. (along with porcupine quills....)

For the dog, drop 3 drops of mineral oil in each eye to prevent irritation. Mix 4 cups peroxide with 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tbsp ORIGINAL BLUE DAWN (no substitutes!) mix well and apply, DO NOT INTENTIONALLY GET IN EYES. leave on for 30 minutes and rinse well. This does dry out the skin %26amp; coat, but it WORKS. You can use conditioner and feed your dog green beans for a few days to eliminate dryness. Tomato juice is acidic and drys out as well, it just doesnt work well on the smell. Your dog may still have an odor when wet, that can last for months. Good luck
