What is the best thing to use to get rid of skunk smell on a dog that has tangled with a skunk?

Tomatoe juice has been tried. Still smells. What is the best thing to use to get rid of skunk smell on a dog that has tangled with a skunk?
Paul Krebaum, a chemist, invented a new more effective formula for de-skunking a dog. Mix in an open bucket or bowl:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide

录 cup baking soda

1 teaspoon of strong liquid soap such as dishwashing detergent.

Mix the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl. The mixture will fizz. Wet your dog and thoroughly massage the solution into the coat. Be sure to keep the mixture out of the dogs eyes, nose and mouth. If it is necessary to apply it to the dogs face, very carefully use a washcloth or a sponge. After applying the mixture to all parts of your dog that may have been sprayed, rinse the dog thoroughly.

If his eyes are red and tearing, wash them with canned milk..plain milk will help, but canned milk is better..

Don't try to store any leftover peroxide solution, as it will explode in a closed container. What is the best thing to use to get rid of skunk smell on a dog that has tangled with a skunk?
use tomato juice and bath him in it
There is a product you can order on line called BasicH2 it worked for getting out the skunk odor on my dog. go to Shaklee.ca
Remington Arms Skunk Deodorizing shampoo...available at vets and pet stores everywhere.

Then Febreeze the heck out of everything! :-)
we have an outside dog and she got sprayed by a skunk before and the smell just went away after about a week when we put her in the pond about every day.
I have 3 suggestions.....

First....Mix a quart of Peroxide--3%---1/2 cup baking soda---tea spoon of clear dish washing soap---mix them all up in a plastic bottle....wash and rinse...should do the trick. Do not mix until you're ready to use. Be sure and rinse thoroughly...the peroxide can be hard on the hair.

Second, Try tomato juice. Some people have had success with this method. Maybe try washing them with soap and water first and then doing a second coat of the juice.

Lastly, try ';Skunk-Off'; shampoo. Your vet should be able to get it for you.

Good luck!!!
You might try bathing the dog first and then using vinegar.
well my dog got spayed in the face about 4 months ago, and i have trtied EVERYTHING and he stil smeels like a skunk if you smeel him on his head, but the vet may prescribe something to you thats what they did to me, ti also depends how much hair your dog has i have a shetland sheep dog whichhas A LOT of hair
tomato juice. its natural and wont cause skin problems.it'll take numerous bathings to remove most of the stink.
Believe it or not, tomato juice does the trick !!!
Actually, try Mesinqill (sp)feminine douche. That's what my vet recommended.
A product called ';Orange A Peel'; works awesome. Remember all of these remedies including others mentioned, have to reach the source of the smell. Right down to the skin if necessary. Right down to every whisker on his chinny chin chin.
try a little febreeze it works on everything else!
Pinesol? Not sure that you'd want to pour it on the dog, but that's what I used to get the smell out of my carhart jacket when I was horse back riding and got sprayed. Good Luck
Tomatoe juice
your gonna have to bathe him with some good thick dog shampoo maybe twice first to see if that works for a day. dont forget to cover yourself with rain gear you can toss out. the smell will get into you as well and your clothes. the tomatoe juice after the bathing then wait a day after rinsing and wash with shampoo again. warm water is a must for this project . your dog will smell ok after that.
