My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?

but he got sprayed right in the eyes so i cant use this mixture where he really got sprayed. All they said was to wash his face with normal soap and use saline solution for his eyes, which we did. We also used tomato juice which does NOT work! Are there any other suggestions about what I could use on his face?

Thank you!My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?
Use canned milk for his eyes..Regular milk will help, but canned milk is best..

Bathe him in this, and it can be sponged on his face, but not his eyes..

1 bottle household hydrogen preoxide. plus 1/4 cup of baking soda, plus 1 peaspoon of dish soap..

Mix in non metal bowl..soak him down, allow to stay on for five minutes, and rinse well..Don't store any that's left..

Canned milk is the remedy for mace or pepper spray..My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?
take him and get him professionally groomed.
Anyway you go is going to be kinda painful, poor thing, anyway, vinegar and water doesn't smell very good but it will do the job! It will neutralize the smell and it won't damage the eyes either. Just keep his eyes washed out of they seem to bother him it shouldn't last very long. Good Luck!
AGAIN???

At least you know better than to try tomatoes!!!

The peroxide, baking soda %26amp; detergent recipe DOES work!!! Face TOO!
use an old wash rag and dip it in the solution and wash his face with that
We're talking about your Dog's EYES! Don't experiment with these concoctions (spelling?) that people are giving.

If anything else, the dog's natural tears will be better than experimenting on him/her.

I vote to let time take its course. Dogs have been sprayed by skunks forever.

Remember the medical oath: ';Do no further harm';
A summer does not go by that my dog is not skunked at least twice. Tomato juice does the trick to get the potent smell off but that awful left over smell will be there for about a week and a half maybe a bit more depending, as you may have learned. As for the eyes I have found that fake tears (which i think is the same as saline, but I'm not sure) has done the trick. I would say one eye dropper full or one caplet of solution, depending on where and which you buy, but about 15 minutes later use only 1 to 2 drops of clear eye it is supposed to ease the sensation in their eyes.
this sounds so weird but trust me it works to get the smell outta anything not just skunk smell on dogs. USE WHITE VINEGAR, you can get it in gallon size for $1.89 at wal-mart and make sure it's white NOT cider and pour it all over your dog and rub it in like a sponge bath, work it into him for atleast 5 min, then rinse you may need to repeat once but it'll work.. I have a CHOW CHOW and the same thing happened to us about a week ago and it worked perfectly. Our vet says he uses it all the time because it's the safest solution for annimals incase they lick it, no harm.. GOOD LUCK :)
One Quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, One teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Put vasiline or olive oil on his eyes and cotton balls in the ears. Keep washign out the eys with saline it takes a few days. This only lasts for a limited time so do not mix in advance. Rub it in really good and wait about 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary. This is a proven formula tested on Myth Busters and by my husband and his hunting dog.....:)
I am a dog groomer and i have seen this before nothing really works soaking in tomato juice will work for a human but not on dog fur I have tried everything even the stuff that promises it will work like de skunk and Oder free nothing works.
My vet gave me a mixture to use it is as follows

1-16 ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide

2-teaspoons baking soda

1-teaspoon dawn dishwashing liquid or whatever dish detergent you use. mix well pour on the dog let set for 10-15 minutes rinse repeat if necessary. this solution also works on carpets and furniture if the dog as layed on them. just pour the solution through a steam cleaner. for larger dogs this solution can be and should be doubled tripled, etc. I have to use it quite often for my little guy nothing moves in my yard without him attacking it.....and he is a chihuahua......lol
Try Dawn Dish soap-It cuts grease (oil) which is what the spray is made of. Try 2 good scrubbings, and be sure to rinse really good and use a conditioner, cuz this stuff can be drying. Good Luck.
My aunt's dog got sprayed by a skunk once, and smelled awful for months afterwards even though they bathed it in tomato juice a LOT. Even after all that, it still stank when it got wet. There's no quick solution to this. Good luck to you and your dog!
The acid from the tomoto juice will work, but were talkin hours. Spray the pooch with some Fabreeze and toss his butt outside for a few days. Mine used to get it all the time. :)
Baking soda paste. Two parts baking soda, one part water. Rub that into your dogs fur, making sure you get down to the skin. It'll take the sting out of the spray and has the added bonus of helping with the smell. As for his eyes, I'd try OTC eyedrops, but if what the vet suggested didn't work, I'd take him back to the vet.

Good luck.
There may be something of use here.
