How do I deter skunks from my back yard ?

The smell wakes me up during the night and lingers for hours inside and outside the houseHow do I deter skunks from my back yard ?
';Napthalene'; has been found to be an excellent skunk deterrent. (Napthalene is the by-product when coal and oil have been burned AND it's also the main ingredient found in moth balls) I'd recommend spreading some moth balls around the backyard of your home.

Moth balls also do a good job keeping squirrels and rabbits out of your garden.

GOOD LUCK!How do I deter skunks from my back yard ?
With a shovel
wet rags with diesel /heating oil (not too much) and place around your yard(under porch, shed etc..)where skunks may hide they dont like the smell(odd huh)

(this also works with stray cats and raccoons)
They are probably coming to your lawn to eat. They eat larvae of insects and earthworms. Put down a Grub Killer with Dylox. You put it down with you fert spreader, water it in heavily, and in 24 hr all the grubs will be dead. That should encourage the skunks to go elsewhere. Greenview makes a grub killer with dylox. Other manufacturers do too but I'm not sure which ones. Your local lawn %26amp; garden center should be able to help you with this.
they may be coming to your yard to eat.if your finding alot of little holes in your yard you may want to put something down that kills grubs, because they eat them.
They come looking for food

don't leave pet food outside.

don't leave meal scraps in unprotect cans.

take care of your lawn and flower beds to reduce insect grubs and mushrooms.

theres a air-freshener spray called ALIBI that actually will knock down the skunk smell in the air. [personal experience I bought this at the dollar store.]

Did GOD actually smell the skunk first, before he created him.?

A lot of snakes stink also, so do some humans.Did GOD actually smell the skunk first, before he created him.?
    Yeah, then he said to Lucifer, ';Here, check out what I just made. Take a whiff of that!';

And the rest is history.Did GOD actually smell the skunk first, before he created him.?
Animals and humans are a result of evolution. The skunk has evolved to have the bad smell to ward off predators and protect itself. Everything has to do with the survival of the fittest.
Haha, He created the skunks with the purpose of smelling like that, silly. That's their defense. People with bad B.O. though...I don't know...

    :)

    Fun question.
Apparantly ring tailed lamas smell just as bad as skunks. But I'm sure the Creator has a sence of humour... and we have to have something to complain about. :)

    Practicing Shaman.
Some animals smell to protect themselves, like the skunk.

Humans smell only when they are swetty, and some animals still just smell from being in the wild.

    Deal with it.
i think, God just thinks skunks, snakes and humans are so cute, He doesn't even notice any smells !! hehehehehe ! very cute question !! hehehehe !!
Now exactly how can you smell something that has yet to be created? The depths of your intelligence amaze! You are correct that many humans stink, mostly the stench comes from their rotted mind.
Everything is made the way they are. The skunks smell may be its only use of defense. I wouldn't question God though, how boring would it be with no unique animals?
For skunks, their smell attracts the opposite sex. God is complex and you can only understand him when you get older.
    Skunk spray is nature's teargas.

Catholic Nut's answer made me lol.
hahahahaha That is a cute question....maybe he thought he farted and didn't realize it was the skunk? hahahaaha

Have a sense of humor people...this is a cute question.
I own two snakes. They don't stink. Just their poop. As so does yours. I wonder if God ever smelled your poo first. XD
    Apparently not.

He didn't do much for this kitten, either. I found him out on the road, so he's pretty skittish. When he was younger and you walked up to him, he'd get scared, poot, and run away. And buddy was it bad.
are you actually risking your soul to go to hell instead of using your brain that GOD gave you?!?!?
I like the smell of skunk.
ya and he knew that it would be a dam good defence mechanism for the skunk.
    probably.
most of humans are snakes...and yes...they did stink...

    but the bottom line is....

    GOD DON'T

    CARE WHAT YOU SMELL LIKE......

    GOD WANTS YOUR SOUL
LMAO....you have made my day!!..sorry if this question was serious but i cant help but see the funny side..maybe god dont have a sense of smell?lol...
yes, then he stuck it on earth to torcher humans.
    I would imagine so.
No. How can you smell something before you make it?
god has no sense of smell
God does something for a reason who knows maybe the skunk will save us all one day =D!! jk lol not sure
I don't know ask your preacher
this is a good, light-hearted question... thanks for the smile.
    God's not real.

I want a pet skunk where can i buy one?

i live in kentucky ur allowed to have pet skunks here i know how to raise one. i just need to know where i can buy oneI want a pet skunk where can i buy one?
Contact the Kentucky Department of Agriculture at (502) 564-5126. Skunks are legal in some counties under certain circumstances.

    http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/kar/301/002/0鈥?/a>

Then contact you city and county governments about legalities there. Sometimes city and county statutes are different unless you live in a city/county with a merged government.

Finally, if they are legal in the county and city, check your neighborhood association bylaws and your deed of restrictions.

There have been cases here where illegal animals have been removed from homes, most involved exotic pets (someone even had a lion at one point!). Just be aware, it can happen and if you are going against neighborhood, city, county, state, or federal regs, you won't have much of a defense.

Is there a way i can cook skunks so they wont tast like they smells?

In all actuallity the skunk meat does not stink, You just don't burst the glands when you clean them.I mean this in all seriousness..In San Marcos, Texas at the Chilympaid, the first and origianal chili cook off in the USA, about the 4th year of it starting the 1st prize chili was made with skunk meat%26gt;Is there a way i can cook skunks so they wont tast like they smells?
    very carefully!!
You have to remove their scent glands immediately after they are dead. Slow cook them with plenty of vegetables and spices!

    yikessss,

i know your pain. when my dog did that nothing worked for us for complete relief. i did use tomato soup and an oatmeal bath. but everything will smell like skunk. your house, clothes, i mean everything. the best thing i found yet is Recipe #1:

    1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

    1/4 cup Baking Soda

    1 teaspoon liquid soap

Mix in a bucket (it will fizz).

Soak your dog's fur, but be careful not to get any in his eyes.

Use a sponge to clean off his head and around his eyes.

Knead solution into the fur and be sure to get every part of him with it.

    Rinse thoroughly.

i would wash my clothes in this tooOh no help! my dog rolled in skunk spray ..?
thanks for the best answer did the recipe work

This is the only the only remedy to treat the smell of skunk. Just fill a tub or pool filled with some tomatoe juice and bathe your dog, you dog probably won't mind cause he might drink the juice. But this will get the smell right off. then you give him a bath with normal soap to get the tomato smell of him if you don't like the smell of tomatoes.

But sometimes this doesn't work so try this recipe I found out

1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

    1/4 a cup Baking Soda

1 tsp of some dish soap or any liqiud soap

If you mix it in a bucket it will foam and bubble, I advise you use a big bucket, then wash away

    HOpe this helps

    Bye
Tomato juice with just a little bit of Dawn detergent.
BATHE YOUR DOG IN TOMATOE JUICE, AND LOT'S OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, if u hav'nt given yr dog a bath this month, give her a bath. Your only spose 2 give them baths once a month. My dog rolles in snails. i just spray cologne on him. cause if u give him a bath more then once a month, their skin might dry out.
I have never had any luck using tomato juice to get rid of skunk smell...it has just made a bigger mess..yuck...id go with princess's idea or if you have a big bottle of vinegar handy use that , the acid in it neutralizes the skunk smell alot better then tomato juice, nothing is going to get rid of it completely the first time though, skunk scent is oil based. maybe do the vinegar and then dawn dish washing liquid

    good luck
Tomato juice.......... I know the feeling sis, my goldens love chasing the lil things
Bathe your dog in tomato juice.
I've heard bathing in tomato juice will help. That's not definite, though, so don't take my word for sure--wait for the others.

How can you get rid of skunks?

Bright light - Skunks are nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden, flooding an area with light can be an effective deterrent. Use flood lights in combination with motion sensors.

Automated sprinklers - Contech manufactures a device called 鈥楾he Scarecrow鈥?which is essentially a sprinkler attached to a motion sensor that will spray any animals that wander into your yard.

Spicy pepper solutions - Pepper sprays are reported to work well but must be reapplied every few days to remain effective.

Commercial repellents - There are many available types, people have also reported success with commercial dog and cat repellents. How can you get rid of skunks?

I Captain Gorgeous will answer you,

    Hammer + Skunk = No skunk. =]

    Captain Gorgeous.
They make skunk repellant, it's available at Lowe's, Home Depot etc.
Why would you want to get rid of them? I was watching some late night talk show the other night and one of those animal people were on there. This lady had several skunks and talked about how they really are helpful. They eat alot of things that you don't want like mice and other pests. All you need to do is make sure your trash is securely covered so they don't dig into that. Also make sure there arn't any openings into your home. Once they eat the unwanted pests they tend to go on their way. If you are worried about getting sprayed then stay away. They don't want to spray you and usually show some sign before they do so, if you see them like tap their feet then back off and all will be good.

  • Orange Skunk Clownfish Breeding?

I have a pair of orange skunk clowns in my 8 gallon reef tank. They are the only fish and they have a bubble tip anemone that they love. I was told that the fish are about a year and a half old. I'm very interested in breeding them and want to know how old they have to be to breed. Also, any other information that could be helpful.Orange Skunk Clownfish Breeding?
Orange skunks get close to 6 inches, they would not have room to even turn around in an 8 gallon tank, let alone breed in one. Their minimum is 30 gallons. a year old clown is old enough to breed, but I doubt that they will thrive enough in an 8 gallon tank to do so. Orange Skunk Clownfish Breeding?
sounds like you're doing everything right.they'll take care of the breeding part themselves.what are they, about a inch or so long?they're plenty old enough.keep an eye out near the anemone, for a reddish mass that the fish attend to.as they get nearer to hatching,it will look like the mass is squrming.they live off the yolk sack for a few days then start to eat rotifers, invisible microorganisms, which you will have to culture.the parents will protect them up to this point,at nighttime shine a light at the tank bottom they will group there then syphon them in to a rearing tank, with a sponge filter.you'll get good at this in time.get clownfishes by joyce wilkinson.a good book to have.

OK... I'm going with 12 legs and 6 antenia. Most pics look like 8 legs but there's one I kept looking at that looked like there were 6 on one side. ?? They are really neat. I'd never heard of them before. $20 seems like alot to buy one. But if you really into aquariums, they seem worth it.

GL..How to get rid of skunk smell?
A skunk was locked in my garage with my dog all night once; it sprayed through my venting system and of course my car smelled horrid too. My neighbor brought us a product called Odoban that he purchased at Home Depot. I think it is like heavy duty Febreze. I have used Febreze successfully on ';skunked'; clothes, and the Odoban helped in the car and on the carpet. My car still smelled like skunk for months when it got hot. I would probably wash the dog with dishwashing soap like Dawn, to strip the oil in the skunk spray; then spray something like Febreze or Odoban on the dog and rub it in; allow it to work as long as you can bear it; and then I would rinse it off to ensure that the chemicals do not harm the dog. You may have to repeat the procedure .
I just had the same experience this morning. The kennel that I board my dog with gave me a recipe to wash the dog with. You have to becareful not to get it in the dogs eyes or mouth, this is the challenge since that's where he was sprayed the worst.

    Deskunk Recipe

    1 quart of Hydrogen peroxide

    1/4 cup of Baking soda

4 drops of dish detergent (Dawn was recomended) to strip the oil from skunk spray.

Combine in a bucket( outside if you can). And wash dog with it.

I haven't tried it yet, it's storming right now. Will post results.

My kennel also gave me a spray bottle of OdoBan for the house.

    Good Luck!
My dog use to get sprayed about 2 times a year. I tried the tomato juice, peroxide/baking soda/soap formula, as well as some skunk removal products at the pet stores, Vets and on line all with limited success. I was reading that it is skunk OIL. Well working on cars and needing to clean the grease and OIL my hands what so I have a bar of 鈥?yes Lava Soap. So I tired it today after my dog got it again after a 3 year hiatus. I follow up with cloths detergent and Clorox II mixed together. Well this works for me! Next time I may try hand degreaser/cleaner.

Dog - Tomato Juice or Douche

House - A good old fashioned cleaning. We had to use the Douche to spot clean the carpet where the dog had managed to lay on for about 1/2 a second. I cleaned the kitchen floor with straight vinegar.
Tomato juice does help, but to be honest I had the smell around for weeks after my dog got sprayed. I sent the dog to the groomer, but he still smelled. It just takes time with open doors and windows to help.
tomato juice-bathe the dog in it.
tomato juice for the dog and moth balls for the house.
    tomato juice
you should wash your dog with tomato juice
For your house, get Ozium. It works wonders.

Skunk defensive secretion is composed of seven major volatile components. These can be divided into two major groups of compounds, thiols and acetate derivatives of these thiols. Two of the thiols are responsible for the strongly repellent odor of the secretion, (E )-2-butene-1-thiol and 3-methyl-1-butanethiol. The third thiol, 2-quinolinemethanethiol, is not as odoriferous due to its low volatility

Tips: Before You Bathe Your ';Skunked'; Dog

    1. Before handling your dog, you may want to put on some old clothes. Skunk spray is actually an oil and is very difficult to remove from clothing. Do not let your dog lay in his dog bed or the skunk oils will get on the bed.

    2. If possible, leave the dog outside to prevent the odor ridden oils from getting into your house.

    3. Determine where the spray hit the dog. Depending on your dog's hair type, you may be able to trim away or comb out some of the affected hair.

    4. When you're ready to wash the dog, only clean the sprayed area. Skunk spray is oily and can easily be spread all over the dog. You will most likely have to give the dog more than one bath, so save an all-over bath until the second or third washing.

How do I get the odor out?

It may be particularly hard to get the odor out of those dogs who have thick double coats. If quick action is not taken it is possible to smell the odor on your dog for up to two years, especially when the dog gets wet.

It is best to bathe your dog with a shampoo before the skunk's sulphuric spray dries on the fur. After bathing you can try some of the following methods...

    Store bought De-Skunking Products

There are several products you can buy at the store to de-skunk your dog, which I think work best, but one does not always have them on hand when their dog gets sprayed.

    Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover

    Earth Friendly Skunk Odor Remover

    Tomato Juice or Mouthwash

A couple old methods used are saturating the dog's coat in tomato juice or mouthwash and than bathing the dog thoroughly with a canine shampoo. However the effectiveness of these methods are questionable and it is said that the tomato juice will leave your dogs coat all red.
Nothing will happen to him if you don't do anything tonight. You don't need to take him to the vet either.

Just wash him in the morning. You could always try the tomato juice route, or else there are special shampoos for skunk and stuff that you could find at a pet store. Even with either of those, sometimes the smell sticks around for awhile, but not nearly as bad.
TOMATO JUICE!!! AND LOTS OF IT!!

Our boxers were notorious for getting sprayed by skunks (cause we lived in the country) let it air out first, get a tub of some kind, rubber gloves , outside, it will linger for a bit but it will defiently help, and your dog will be outside for a bit, and may the force be with you!
Bathe him in the following solution:

    1 qt Hydrogen peroxide

    1/4 cup baking soda

    1 teaspoon dish soap.

Don't store any excess in a sealed container as it could explode.

Nothing will happen to him if you wait--he'll just be stinky.
You don't really need to take him to a vet...Just bathe him with a lot of dog shampoo and tomato juice to eradicate the smell. And wear a mask so that you can get ear your dog. :)
You need to plug your nose so you can do this: get rubber gloves and check out this web site:

Will i look like a skunk?

my hair goesdown 2 my butt.%26amp; its got no style.so i start school on monday %26amp; i want something new %26amp; fresh.so what do u think of long light blonde hair with black underneath,%26amp; layers only in the front? Will i look like a skunk?
Don't do it, girl. The LAST thing you need is the skunk jokes on your 1st day of school.

Long hair only looks good if it is in really good condition. If it is all ratty at the ends like a horse's tail, then you really need to cut a significant portion of it off.

I would not worry about dyeing it. It is too much of a pain to have to keep the color up. I would just stay natural, cut it to a decent length, and style it by using hot rollers. If you don't want to use hair curlers, try braiding it when it is still wet and then go to sleep. When you wake up and take the braids out, your hair will be sexy and wavy. Good luck! Will i look like a skunk?
I wouldn't go with the black underneath, it will look kinda skunky %26amp; black hair is really haird to get rid of. Go with a nice shade of brown or maybe even auburn(blonde on auburn looks really nice!!)

What do you think is most likely to be true; BIGFOOT,SKUNK MONKEY,ALIENS,SEA MONSTERS, MOTH MAN,GHOSTS,DI NOS.

Dinosours in remote places. What do you think is most likely to be true; BIGFOOT,SKUNK MONKEY,ALIENS,SEA MONSTERS, MOTH MAN,GHOSTS,DI NOS.
I think aliens, sea monsters, and ghosts are the most likely.

I don't see aliens necessarily as ';green men.'; I think they could look just like us. I see aliens as just being people from another planet in the universe.

I kind of consider that prehistoric shark that surfaced near Japan not too long ago to be a sea monster. As for other water monsters, like Loch Ness, mermaids, giant squids the size of a ship, I don't know.

Ghosts are such a common occurrence. So many people have seen them, including me, so it is hard to not believe in them, even if they are just a trick of the mind or light or whatever. What do you think is most likely to be true; BIGFOOT,SKUNK MONKEY,ALIENS,SEA MONSTERS, MOTH MAN,GHOSTS,DI NOS.
Ghosts And aliens are probably most likely more to be real than others
    Ghosts, and possibly aliens.

The others you mentioned--bigfoot, etc. were probably rooted in some truth--there may have been some mutated animals that people thought were ';monsters,'; and the legends have grown through the generations. So, they might (or might have) exist on some level, but probably not to the extent that they would match the legends.

Ghosts are real, and it makes sense that they are. There is a legitimate basis for their existence, after all. If one accepts that there is some sort of life after death (heaven/hell, reincarnation, existence on other planes, etc), then they have to accept the possibility that once in a while, a person still living can see or sense the presence of someone who has moved on in another form. Of course, there are some who believe that once you die, that's the end. Those people would obviously deny ghosts, since they would be proof that they are wrong.

Aliens--I think it's pretty likely that there is life somewhere other than earth. I don't know if it's little green men, or ET's, or just some sort of bacteria that exists somewhere, but the universe is a pretty big place, and I have to concede the possibility that some form of life exists elsewhere.
Dinosours in bulk coming to a store near you.
ghost definetly my mom is phychic
Bigfoot is my passion and I believe the evidence points to a real creature. It is amazing that no bodies have been found that were verified by science but I am convinced they exist. The other ones seem less likely to me.
Aliens. We have one undeniable example of living creatures (this planet) so it's entirely possible that there are more.
    GHOSTS
Ghosts and Aliens. Many siting, photographs, movies and it's very ignorant to think were are the only inhabited planet in the universe, and to think this is the only plane as well.

And dinosaurs are real. Just extinct.
Moth man, and Ghosts (almost everyone in my family has had an experience with a ghost)
I would have to say ghosts. Ive never been afraid to go camping because of Bigfoot. Never been afraid of been abducted. Sea monsters ummm more afraid of big fish with big teeth. Have no clue what a skunk monkey or moth man are. Dinos? I know they have bones and stuff but NO. BUT ghosts, Im home alot by myself in a big house 3 floors. Scared to death! • Anyone know what the sandy/gritty substance is on the Skunk which has been going about in the UK recentely?

    Probably just dirt.

It might have been extra leaf chaff... or bits of ground up stem. Could even be soil from the pots.

My father used to have to get rid of all kinds of extra crap when he purified his ';crops';.... but that was years ago. He is dead now. I couldn't tell you, therefore...

Perhaps if you get a bit of the grit and take a really close look at it (magnifying glass or microscope). If its green through to white (at least a bit greenish), you'll know its part of the plant. If its clear or grey and angular then its some mineral substance from the soil. If its brown... probably also from the soil but organic material, possibly originally from the plant itself.Anyone know what the sandy/gritty substance is on the Skunk which has been going about in the UK recentely?

    Have you seen a skunk?

Skunks live all over the continental united States...but i have never seen one! Not even as road kill. I know they are noctornal but I have seen most noctornal animals that live in my area at some point. How come I never see skunks? Has anyone ever seen one in the wild? (not that I'd want to see one...Im just wondering)Have you seen a skunk?
I used to work at a wildlife park so I saw them daily. I also lived on a farm. We saw them all the time there. We actually had a family of them under our barn one year. They are quite cute when you see mom leading 3-5 babies out for a walk! If you see one don't run or make alot of noise. Just walk away. They only spray if they feel threatened and only after they give you 2 warnings prior to a spray. The warnings are as follows:

    1) chomping teath. They snap at you basically.

    2) they lunge at you (will jump forward then back).

and after that you better hope your gone or you'll be stinky.

They don't spray all the time because they only produce so much of their pungent oder. They tend to warn you first or walk away if they feel you won't threaten them fully.Have you seen a skunk?
I've seen many skunks when I lived up in No Cal. I don't know why you haven't seen any but I would be happy about that. My friends dog got sprayed by a skunk. NOT FUN! LOL
I've seen several in the wild, and always stayed as far away from them as possible. Once, when camping, I woke up to find one getting in a garbage bag behind me. Spent the rest of the night sleeping in my car!
I have seen a skunk. It was kind of sad though, because it was probably old and scenile, walking around in broad daylight. I felt bad, even though I have had a bad experience with a skunk before. (One sprayed my cat. It stunk for like 2 weeks.) Anyway, my guess is that you'll only see one if it's old and scenile or if you just, well I wouldn't say get LUCKY, but if you happen to see one in the woods or something.
I have seen several! They are pretty common. Mostly I see them at night looking to raid garbage cans.
I lived in South Central Texas for 10 yrs I seen many of then a few times during the day and 1 time during the day she had 3 babies. Yes a road kill right infront of the house I had to bury it I'm glad the stink bag didn't burst.
Yes. Appx 30ft away from me. I also smell them all the time
I have seen a family of skunks at one place i used to work at. They'd be out at night jumping around in the grass catching crickets to eat. One of my former co-workers was sitting outside at a picnic table eating his supper when he felt a cat rubbing against his leg. When he looked down-it was a skunk. It didn't spray,it was looking for food.
Well, you didn't tell us where you live! Are you in a highly populated area? That's probably why you haven't seen one. We had a family that had to be removed from our storage building...not a pretty site....stinky too! I see them frequently around the Northwest...
When we lived in Colorado Springs, I used to see them all the time...in fact there were so many of them that the humane society used to put up humane traps in our apartment complex to catch the critters and relocate them. They are awfully cute but smell terrible. Now that we live in Florida, I never see them at all!

If you smell a skunk, and think, ';Coffee Grounds'; why does it suddenly smell bearable?

When I lose something, I think of carrots. Don't ask me why, but it works, and I usually find what is lost. I think it's the zen priciple of arresting the rational mind, with irrelevent thoughts. If you smell a skunk, and think, ';Coffee Grounds'; why does it suddenly smell bearable?
You have clearly never smelled a skunk...;)If you smell a skunk, and think, ';Coffee Grounds'; why does it suddenly smell bearable?
I love the smell of skunk (from a distance) because it smells like dank bud. I'd hate to ruin it with coffee but thanks for the idea next for time my dog farts.

Have you ever been sprayed in the face by a skunk?

I did today at work, its almost as bad as getting maced..Have you ever been sprayed in the face by a skunk?
I am sorry...that is awful...I did get pepper sprayed a few months ago right in the eyes very unexpectedly so I can somewhat understand the element of surprise with that! I think a skunk would probably be worse......I hope your ok?Have you ever been sprayed in the face by a skunk?
    not yet

a few years ago there was a skunk in our neighbourhood that got its head stuck in a can.. it was not able to get it off %26amp; so I approached it to help get it off its head I finally was able to do this although my husband was screaming at me to step away from the skunk now..

%26amp; the little guy just looked at me for a second %26amp; then wondered off

I had to do this as I felt so sorry for it
It is a big fear of mine. They live all around my pool in the concrete under the deck.

I'm always afraid they will get spooked while I'm cleaning the pool and spray me.
No I haven't. But I did see one in a parking lot 2 nights ago. It's the first time I ever saw a real one.

They say tomato juice helps remove the odor.

My dog got skunked, how to clean face?

The Bruce cleaned up pretty well but we could not get the soap and tomato juice near his eyes and ears for any length of time without irritation. Any idea how to clean this sensitive area a little better? Also, He rubbed skunk on the carpets - suggestions on how to get that smell out?My dog got skunked, how to clean face?
Please don't think i'm trying to be gross, but the same thing happened to my pup last summer. I called the vet for some suggestions because the tomato juice just wasn't cutting it. The vet recommended that I use baby powder scented douche. I know it sounds gross, but if you take a washcloth and saturate it with the douche, and wipe it on the dog's face, and any other area that might be still stinky, it will take care of it. My dog still smelled like baby powder, which is a bit odd, but much better than skunk! I'm not sure if it will work on the carpet, but i would just test it on a unnoticable section first to make sure it doesn't stain, and then go for it. Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me!!My dog got skunked, how to clean face?
    you can try lemon
I once heard of a couple of good ol' boys who hit a skunk while out doin' D%26amp;D (drinkin' and drivin'). They once heard that smoke from burning pine branches would neutralize skunk odor. So they built a fire under their truck. Now if you build a fire under your dog... Uh, wait a minute, I think the guys ended up frying their truck.

All kidding aside, check the recipes below... they sound promising (and some a bit bizzare). Also, if you find an enzyme-based cleaner, you might try that as well.

    Good luck!
A mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 Hydrogen Peroxide - you can use this to flush the eyes, and/or wash near them.

As for you carpet, carpet shampoo and a great scrubbing.
tomato paste and a bath in tomato juice
at walmart they have this rug cleaner for 7.00 and it works really good
You should sprinkle a box of baking soda on the carpet in the smelly area and leave it for a few of hours, then vacuum really well. It should take care of the smell in the carpet. Maybe a little baking soda mixed with water on a washcloth will work for your dog also. I would start with just a small amount though, so it doesn't get in his eyes.
There is a product they call Natures miracle (Available at Petco or any other petsmart, or that type of store) that has a specific product in their line that deals with skunking. They have one to wash the dog and another to wash the carpet. The Petco near me has a specific grooming that deals with pets that have been skunked - I would highly recommend it - also if you don't have a Petco groomer near you I am sure that a reputable groomer would also have this service.
    Use Borscht
Tomatoe juice (pure). And I would reccomend going to the pet store and getting the petastic/nature's miracle skunk out, it really works. Soooo not a fun problem, been there before. (along with porcupine quills....)
    ';Nature's Miracle'; on the carpets

For the dog, drop 3 drops of mineral oil in each eye to prevent irritation. Mix 4 cups peroxide with 1/4 cup baking soda and 2 tbsp ORIGINAL BLUE DAWN (no substitutes!) mix well and apply, DO NOT INTENTIONALLY GET IN EYES. leave on for 30 minutes and rinse well. This does dry out the skin %26amp; coat, but it WORKS. You can use conditioner and feed your dog green beans for a few days to eliminate dryness. Tomato juice is acidic and drys out as well, it just doesnt work well on the smell. Your dog may still have an odor when wet, that can last for months. Good luck
  • can you still tan with sunburn
  • Does bathing in tomato juice remove the smell of a skunk?

No it just makes you smell like a giant skunk flavored tomato.

Love and blessings DonDoes bathing in tomato juice remove the smell of a skunk?
I guess I'll see in a minuteDoes bathing in tomato juice remove the smell of a skunk?
No, but is does give your skin a healthy red glow after about an hour of soaking in it.
    Nope
I have no idea why you are asking this in R%26amp;S, but I will answer you anyway.

No, from my experience, it DOES NOT!

My dog got ';skunked'; and I tried tomato juice, and it didn't work. I even did it a few times, and it didn't work. So, I don't know where people get that from, but, I had to use an enormous amount of ';smell goods'; to even get close to him. Then, It just had to kind of ';wear off'; of him. I left him outside alot during that time!!! Ahh! Fresh air does wonders!!

Wow. I just read a couple of answers, and they say vinegar, and Dawn. (2 things I didn't try!!) Live and learn!! Thanks for the tip, though! I'll remember that for next time.
Again, wrong section, but yes. I know from experience. A LOT of it. For A LONG time.
yes but white vinegar and water works better. My dogs have gotten skunked several times
I don't remember what the result was on Mythbusters. I'm guessing no. Wait, didn't they have a problem getting the skunk to spray them. I don't remember. It's been a long time since I saw that one.
No, you just end up smelling like an expensive French dish.
They sell stuff at pet store, but tomato does help in an emergency.
Anything acidic will help. Vinegar works. So does Dawn dish detergent. The skunk smell is an oil so anything that breaks down oils is what you should use.

My cat farts when ever it gets scared.i think its mom mated with a skunk my cat has a grey stripe?

My cat does the same exact thing! when he gets scared he Farts and it smells really bad so your cat is not the only one that does this!
Maybe you have a skunk not a cat
    what is the question%26gt;

Why do people give advice on pet skunks when they dont know anything about them?

I personally think that it would be useful for someone to get the facts on how an animal should be reared before they either own one or advise others on the matter. Skunks do not need claws removed, do not bite when reared properly and do not smell when they have their scent glands removed. My skunk is a beautiful, affectionate, entertaining, gentle and appreciative member of the family, and she occasionally will be a little stubborn or mischievous which just adds to her wonderful character. However people who have had very little experiences of skunks may disagree with this. Why do people give advice on pet skunks when they dont know anything about them?
Ahhh Phil - you could probably ask that question abt most any category here - - right? Just as in life, we have to sort through and find the correct or best suited advice... ok?Why do people give advice on pet skunks when they dont know anything about them?
    I agree wholeheartedly!
I agree they can be really cute. We had one which we named ';Berkat Obadiah';. ';Berkat'; means blessing in Malay language. Obadiah is from the Bible. He was really cute and he played by doing a little acrobatic move, raising his hind legs and then jumped a few steps forward. He was de-scented. When young, we bathed him but as he grew we could not do that and his coat had a musky smell. He met my in-laws' dachund puppy which taught him to play-bite. Except B.O. (his initials) chomped hard and drew blood! So we let him be in his cage and let him out a little and he used a kitty litter box and ate cat food. But we could not bathe him, as I said. He would try to bite. He chomped on cockroaches when he found any! Then I got pregnant and the musky smell made my morning sickness worse so we gave him away to our friend. But you are right. Skunks are beautiful creatures and very amusing. They are expensive too when bought at a pet store.
So they can get the 2 points. I love skunks.
for the points. i just wish skunks were legal here :( they are such interesting animals.

i get similar responses to my three rats. stupid people. lol.

How can I get rid of this smell in my hair? A skunk sprayed me!?

You know tomato juice is really good, but V8 works even better. Our dog got sprayed bad recently and all we had was V8 and it got rid of skunk almost totally. Tomato juice cuts it down but something in the V8 works better. Take this from some one who has had to deal with skunks on dogs on numerous occasions. Good luck...

it says where they are legal.

My skunk doesnt smell... maybe like green peppers after he's been munching on them :)
you realize that skunks smell?!?! anyway, i dunno if its legal or not, but i seriously doubt it... Another (more fresher) animal u could get is a kitten (particularly Rag Doll cats because their REALLY cuddly, but also really playful) or a dog...
Why do you want a skunk for a pet? I am just curious. It's illegal!

Found a pet skunk... what to do with it?

I found a pet skunk earlier today. It came right up to me so its obviously a pet and he didnt spray me at all. He seems a little sick though. Probably because he's been outside and not use to it!! Should I take him to the vet or what? He did bite my friend so we put him in a dog crate for now. Is that ok? I want someone who's a professional to look at it by morning. Thanks :DFound a pet skunk... what to do with it?
I sure hope you are joking! and that you already know that is the actions of a skunk with rabies..

If you are not joking, get your friend to the ER..They will know exactly what to do..

    Added for phoenix.

My friend in Canada, thought it was humorous when a baby skunk came to play in her yard with the puppies in their Ex-pen.

The little skunk nibbled their noses..as if in play..

All of the litter died of rabies..

I am also a retired nurse, and have worked in ER for several years.( in skunk country) .and I know any ER will know what to do.Found a pet skunk... what to do with it?
first check him for rabies since he bit your freind

take him to a vet for sure

look around the area you found him for a leash or tags with info on him

    post found skunk signs

he doesnt have to be a pet because hes freindly towards you

he may not feel you would put him in danger but didnt feel that way when he bit your freind.

how large is the crate does he have room to turn around';?
Take it to a vet immediately. Skunks aren't normally attracted to humans and the behavior your describing is similar to a rabid animal. The skunk needs to be quarantined and tested for your friends sake at least. Honestly you shouldn't have taken the steps to bring it into your home. The animal will associate humans with food now and may have to be put down. Wild animals aren't pets.
It all depends on where you live!!! I would LOVE a pet skunk but where I live, they are illegal as pets-- even ones without their stink glands.

To be safe, do not handle it. You need to call animal control, and they can tell you what you need to do.

You friend needs to be seen by a Dr, immediately.

ADD- haha chetco, really have you btdt?! with a skunk?!

and, after reading others answers-- DO NOT release him into the wild!!! He could easily die from a car, and he WILL get into yards and garbages and make a mess! IF he IS a pet, they will want him back!!! All the more reason to call animal control, he will be seen by their vet, and you wont be financially responsible for the vet costs.
did you find it during the day? Skunks are nocternal and only come out at night.

If sick with possible rabies they will raom during the day kind of like they are walking drunk.

If your friend was bit he may need a rabies shot.

    Tell your parents ASAPPPP
Hmmm, i woulnt say keep it as a pet for much longer, keep an eye on it. or even release into the wild or something, if ur really worried take it to the vet. better safe then sorry.
    leave him be!

he was fine on his on!

so god will be with him through the

    rest!
He could have rabies... get him checked ASAP. Your friend may end up with some really unfunny shots from the doctor.

Skunk Botia Loach is too aggressive?

I have a 20 gallon planted tank with some drift wood, 9 tetras, 3 rasboras, and a single skunk loach that I bought for the purpose of cleaning a snail infestatio -- that was about two years ago. The loach has always been aggressive but recently after rearranging certain decorations inside the tank, it has become especially aggressive, chasing the other fish and nipping their fins if they come too close. How can I prevent the nipping and outrageous aggressiveness that has occurred as of late?Skunk Botia Loach is too aggressive?
Hope you have an extra tank you can put the fish in. If the fish is that aggressive now, it will probably get more aggressive. You're going to have a punch of finless fish or population with dwindle.

Sounds like your tank may be too small for the amount of fish you have in the tank. You're going to have to remove the aggressive fish. At least for now. Try putting it back into the tank later. Always a good idea to have an extra tank around that can be used for just this kind of thing or can be used as a sick tank.Skunk Botia Loach is too aggressive?
Loaches are schooling fish, and should be kept in groups of 3 or more. If they're kept solitary they can get very nippy and aggressive. Also, they need places to hide during the day. They're nocturnal, so if you don't give them someplace dark to hide they get stressed out.
don't put them in unless you wanna see your fish without fins.

  • Skunk Smell Length?

My daughter's birthday party is at our house in a couple of weeks. Tonight, my dumb cat attacked a skunk outside the house while it was eating her cat food. Now, the whole house smells like skunk. I know there's probably nothing I can do about the smell outside or inside besides wait it out and I know what to do for the cat (Keep her outside at all times). But, how long will the smell linger? Will it be ok to have her friends over in a couple of weeks?Skunk Smell Length?
The dehumidifier or A/C idea makes sense.

I would also get some pot-pourri.

The cat, well, they wash dogs in tomato juice, but washing a cat,is almost impossible. Still, worth a try...

The more ventilation you have flowing through the house, and then out of the house, the faster the skunk odor will go away, so run kitchen, laundry, bathroom, and (if your house has one) HRV vent fans in high, constantly, 24 hrs a day.

One thing you can do, is buy a ';ton'; of baking soda, and spread it all over the floor -- carpets, tile, and all.... The baking soda will absorb the skunk odor. You'd spread the soda in the morning, go to work, leave the house, and then vaccuum in the evening when you get back... You'll have to do this for about a week though! And also spread a whack of baking soda outside, where the spraying happened. Leave a few days, then, if possible, flush with water.

    Good Luck!Skunk Smell Length?
Long as the skunk doesn't spray there again?

    Yes... possibly even before then...
Cool, just tell everyone youve been smoking cronic
The best way to remove odors from the air is to run your A/C unit and get rid of the smell with the condensate water. If you can't get your A/C to run because of the cold temps, try a dehumidifier. RScott

Try feeding him tomato juice, and put a drop or two in each nostril. That should clear it, most of it anyways

Dont put anything in his nose. It will go away in about 3 weeks. its not worth hurting your dog. Just dont sniff his breath for a while...

Does calling animal control to remove, say, a family of skunks, cost money?

We had a skunk in our yard and Animal control said that to get rid of it the only thing we could do was pick up a trap from them, alert them once they were trapped and they would take the skunk and kill it. The reason is that the only other option is to take out its scent gland and re-realease them , but that it is animal cruelty to do so because it leaves them defenseless. The nasty part is that after they kill it YOU are responsible for getting rid of the body. GROSS. They didnt say anything about a fee though. Hope this helps.Does calling animal control to remove, say, a family of skunks, cost money?
Animal control won't remove them. You will need to call a pest control company and pay them.Does calling animal control to remove, say, a family of skunks, cost money?
alot of times they wont remove them..throw some moth balls down hopefully that will run them out
    No, It Shouldnt Cost Anythng.

What means ';drunk as a skunk'; besides the rhyme why would they allude to a skunk as drunk?

';Drunk as a skunk'; (meaning ';extremely inebriated';) cannot be pinned on the habits of Mephitis mephitica, the charming North American mammal and member of the weasel family which takes its name from the Algonquian Indian word meaning ';urinating fox.'; The term ';drunk as a skunk'; is, simply a good example of our love of comparisons and rhyming, made especially popular by the fact that ';skunk'; happens to be one of the few words that rhymes with ';drunk.'; Similar, albeit non-rhyming, terms for ';extremely drunk'; have included, over the years, drunk as a fly, a log, a dog, a loon, a poet, a billy goat, a broom, a bat, a badger, a boiled owl, and several dozen more too risqu茅 to list here. Although comparative terms for drunkenness have been popular throughout the history of English, ';drunk as a skunk'; seems to be a fairly recent (20th century) addition to the canon. What means ';drunk as a skunk'; besides the rhyme why would they allude to a skunk as drunk?
From the website I cited below, ';Most etymological sources agree that the term drunk as a skunk arose due to its rhyme. Prior to its appearance in English there were several other drunk as a ____ phrases, some dating back to Chaucer's time. Lord was skunk's immediate predecessor, the notion there being that the rich could better afford alcoholic drink than the common folk.';What means ';drunk as a skunk'; besides the rhyme why would they allude to a skunk as drunk?
I think its mainly based on the fact that it rhymes!

But if i think about it abit more indelth, i realise another probable reason...

a skunks Odour is intoxicating, and to be intoxicated means to be drunk... so maybe thats another way of looking at it?
I think it's just the rhyme factor at play here. in my experience skunks are very sober, solid, serious creatures, and I've never seen one fail to recite the alphabet backwards.
you would have to ';cool as a moose'; to understand
maybe it has nothing to do with skunks drinking too much, and it was just chosen as skunk and drunk rhyme...

drunk as a moose or drunk as a possum just don't sound the same..
because when some people get drunk and

neglect themselves they really start to

    smell really bad.
    I would say ';no';.

    Suspected skunk scratch or bite?

My dog was either scratched, bitten or cut his nose on his fence last night. We heard him give a little cry then smelled the skunk odor. He has not had his rabies shot in 3 years. I cleaned his nose thoroughly. What should I do at this point? He is kenneled with an access door to his 'yard'.Suspected skunk scratch or bite?

  • Does any one know were skunks live? and does any one have a skunk as a pet? and do u like it?

Skunks shouldn't be pets, because they stink.

    Skunks are foul.

And why would you want to know where skunks live?Does any one know were skunks live? and does any one have a skunk as a pet? and do u like it?
there's a skunk that lives under my back yard shed. you can come and get him anytime you want to.

it's possible to have the ';stinkbag'; removed - the art that allows them to spray the skunk funk, so it is possible to have one as a pet.

from my experience they can be really vicious. If you get one as a baby i am sure it would be fine as a pet.

I had a baby raccoon once because the mother got hit by a car in front of my house. It was only a week or two old and we raised it. it was a loving little pet and he was awesome.

My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?

but he got sprayed right in the eyes so i cant use this mixture where he really got sprayed. All they said was to wash his face with normal soap and use saline solution for his eyes, which we did. We also used tomato juice which does NOT work! Are there any other suggestions about what I could use on his face?

Thank you!My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?
Use canned milk for his eyes..Regular milk will help, but canned milk is best..

Bathe him in this, and it can be sponged on his face, but not his eyes..

1 bottle household hydrogen preoxide. plus 1/4 cup of baking soda, plus 1 peaspoon of dish soap..

Mix in non metal bowl..soak him down, allow to stay on for five minutes, and rinse well..Don't store any that's left..

Canned milk is the remedy for mace or pepper spray..My dog got sprayed by a skunk tonight, we washed him with this mixture the vet told us to...?
take him and get him professionally groomed.
Anyway you go is going to be kinda painful, poor thing, anyway, vinegar and water doesn't smell very good but it will do the job! It will neutralize the smell and it won't damage the eyes either. Just keep his eyes washed out of they seem to bother him it shouldn't last very long. Good Luck!
    AGAIN???

At least you know better than to try tomatoes!!!

The peroxide, baking soda %26amp; detergent recipe DOES work!!! Face TOO!
use an old wash rag and dip it in the solution and wash his face with that
We're talking about your Dog's EYES! Don't experiment with these concoctions (spelling?) that people are giving.

If anything else, the dog's natural tears will be better than experimenting on him/her.

I vote to let time take its course. Dogs have been sprayed by skunks forever.

    Remember the medical oath: ';Do no further harm';
A summer does not go by that my dog is not skunked at least twice. Tomato juice does the trick to get the potent smell off but that awful left over smell will be there for about a week and a half maybe a bit more depending, as you may have learned. As for the eyes I have found that fake tears (which i think is the same as saline, but I'm not sure) has done the trick. I would say one eye dropper full or one caplet of solution, depending on where and which you buy, but about 15 minutes later use only 1 to 2 drops of clear eye it is supposed to ease the sensation in their eyes.
this sounds so weird but trust me it works to get the smell outta anything not just skunk smell on dogs. USE WHITE VINEGAR, you can get it in gallon size for $1.89 at wal-mart and make sure it's white NOT cider and pour it all over your dog and rub it in like a sponge bath, work it into him for atleast 5 min, then rinse you may need to repeat once but it'll work.. I have a CHOW CHOW and the same thing happened to us about a week ago and it worked perfectly. Our vet says he uses it all the time because it's the safest solution for annimals incase they lick it, no harm.. GOOD LUCK :)
One Quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, One teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Put vasiline or olive oil on his eyes and cotton balls in the ears. Keep washign out the eys with saline it takes a few days. This only lasts for a limited time so do not mix in advance. Rub it in really good and wait about 15 minutes. Repeat if necessary. This is a proven formula tested on Myth Busters and by my husband and his hunting dog.....:)
I am a dog groomer and i have seen this before nothing really works soaking in tomato juice will work for a human but not on dog fur I have tried everything even the stuff that promises it will work like de skunk and Oder free nothing works.
My vet gave me a mixture to use it is as follows

1-16 ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide

    2-teaspoons baking soda

1-teaspoon dawn dishwashing liquid or whatever dish detergent you use. mix well pour on the dog let set for 10-15 minutes rinse repeat if necessary. this solution also works on carpets and furniture if the dog as layed on them. just pour the solution through a steam cleaner. for larger dogs this solution can be and should be doubled tripled, etc. I have to use it quite often for my little guy nothing moves in my yard without him attacking it.....and he is a chihuahua......lol
Try Dawn Dish soap-It cuts grease (oil) which is what the spray is made of. Try 2 good scrubbings, and be sure to rinse really good and use a conditioner, cuz this stuff can be drying. Good Luck.
My aunt's dog got sprayed by a skunk once, and smelled awful for months afterwards even though they bathed it in tomato juice a LOT. Even after all that, it still stank when it got wet. There's no quick solution to this. Good luck to you and your dog!
The acid from the tomoto juice will work, but were talkin hours. Spray the pooch with some Fabreeze and toss his butt outside for a few days. Mine used to get it all the time. :)
Baking soda paste. Two parts baking soda, one part water. Rub that into your dogs fur, making sure you get down to the skin. It'll take the sting out of the spray and has the added bonus of helping with the smell. As for his eyes, I'd try OTC eyedrops, but if what the vet suggested didn't work, I'd take him back to the vet.

    Good luck.
There may be something of use here.

Is skunk odor harmful to humans?

nope but it stinksIs skunk odor harmful to humans?
No.Is skunk odor harmful to humans?
nah, but the smell might make you sick to your stomach. (like any really bad smell would)
The odor itself is not, it is a warning. Being directly sprayed however will be very unpleasant. It will burn your eyes (think mace x5), cause severe respitory distress, and badly irritate the skin.
    no
no, it's just foul is all.

The third thiol, 2-quinolinemethanethiol, is not as odoriferous due to its low volatility and the fact that large thiols do not trigger the human olfactory receptor. The chemical structure of these compounds and their percent (four individuals) in the defensive secretion are shown in the following illustration.

A second major class of compound in skunk spray are thioacetate derivatives of the three thiols. These compounds are not as odoriferous as the thiols, but are easily converted to the more potent thiols on water hydrolysis. This chemical conversion may be why pets who have previously been sprayed by skunks will again have a faint ';skunky'; odor on damp evenings. Thioacetate derivatives of (E )-2-butene-1-thiol and 3-methyl-1-butanethiol trapped in the animal's hair could be releasing the smelly thiols under the damp conditions. The chemical structure of these thioacetates and their percent in the defensive secretion are shown in the following illustration.

A third type of compound is found in this secretion, it is the alkaloid 2-methylquinoline. This compound is clearly related to 2-quinolinemethanethiol and S-2-quinolinemethyl thioacetate. Perhaps 2-methylquinoline is a product in the biosynthesis of these two compounds. The structure and percent of 2-methylquinoline in skunk secretion follows.

    Deodorizing Skunk Spray

To get rid of the odor of skunk spray, it is necessary to change the thiols into compounds that have little or no odor. This can easily be done by oxidizing the thiols to sulfonic acids. Many oxidizing agents can effect this change. Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are mild enough to be used on pets although it may change their hair color. For inanimate objects sodium hypochlorite solutions (liquid laundry bleach) are cheap and effective. The chemical reaction for this transformation follows. (Recipes for deodorizing spray.)
    i dont knoww
I don't think it can physically make you ill or go blind or anything. It is Dang annoying though. Hope you didn't get sprayed!!!

My dog got sprayed my a skunk and...?

My mom doesn't want him in the house (he is an inside dog) so he is in the backyard barking! I gave him the dog treats that are supposed to calm the dog and 2 or 3 benedryls but he is barking and we have crazy neighbors that might shoot him. I live in a small town so it's not uncommon to hear about dogs getting shot. Wait, he stopped... maybe that benedryl worked! Well, if he still stinks tomorrow, do you know anything else to make him go to sleep if the benedryl doesn't work? Whoo! He stopped barking! I hope he isn't dead... I didn't hear any gunshots. My dog got sprayed my a skunk and...?
Give him a bath tomorrow in 1 quart of 3% peroxide mixed with 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon liquid soap (like dish soap). Then rinse him really well. It should take care of the smell so he can come back inside. My dog got sprayed my a skunk and...?
if it is common for dogs to get shot in your town i wouldn't leave the dog outside. i would fall apart if my dog got shot. maybe try keeping him in the garage so nothing happens to him
    bathe him in tomato juice/paste
I hope you didn't overdose him! That's alot of benedryl for a dog. Why would you give him benedryl because he got sprayed by a skunk, they aren't tranquilizers.

You need to bathe him as soon as possible to get the spray off him. The longer you leave it on the more gets absorbed into his skin. You can try the tomato juice, Dawn dishwashing liquid, or they do make shampoos for this kinda thing. Just take care of the problem, he did what comes naturally %26amp; you're treating him like he's a leper.
Bathe the dog in tomato juice, it will cut the smell.

Skunk or Raccoon? what do you think?

I'm looking for a new pet and i don't know which on to choose. i've done the research for both, and i'm already set on the fact that i want one of them. I just want to hear some ideas from people who own these pets or know some things about them? which do you think? :)Skunk or Raccoon? what do you think?
Both can make awesome pets. Skunks are more docile and less dangerous when they are intimidated. The stink producing glands are removed from pet skunks so there will be no smell.

Neither animal is suitable for a household with any other animals though.Skunk or Raccoon? what do you think?
First of all are you sure it is legal to have one of these animals as a pet where you live? These are WILD animals and could attack at any time if they felt provoked - which putting them in a cage would definitely do so. You need to research this and THINK carefully about what you're doing . So many people go out and get an animal because they think it's cute and end up abandoning it or neglecting it. You could also be reported to animal control by anyone who would see this ';pet'; and have to pay a huge fine.
I have had pet raccoons I ran a rescue organization for orphaned wild animals. The Ra coons were great but they all run away to join the great out doors when they reach sexual maturity.Like they should. The males will get very aggressive. You dont want a raccoon fore a pet they are not domesticated, and like any other wild animal there behavior can be very erratic. I dint know any thing about skunks so i cant help you there. But i know getting attached to a raccoon can lead to heart ach when they leave you.
i had a raccoon %26amp; he was great. I had a harness for him %26amp; while he was smaller he would ride on my shoulder or back %26amp; he slept at night with me %26amp; was awake during the day. I bottle fed him when he was really young then he went to premium dog food. Pretty cool but when he got bigger he became very curious %26amp; was into everything. Just be sure to lock everything up.
First of all, why are these two you choices? These animals were meant to live in the wild.

But if you think you must have one of these two, I would go with the skunk. They don't seem to get as aggressive as coon's do.

Have you thought about getting something like a Ferret?

I would stay away from the Raccoons if I were you.
I have a cousin that her grandma has a skunk. Which odviously it is desented or what ever it is called. And it is a wonderful pet. But the one she has is somewhat shy of people she doesn't really know. She hides under the couch when people come their
oooh SKUNK those are soo cute but so are racoons but i would go for a skunk it would be more fun !! oh btw could you vote for my dog ella http://www.kzmg.com/Article.asp?id=1231191%26amp;spid

skunk IF he has had his stink glands removed then he is more like a cat raccoons are very aggressive at times very nasty bite and does NOT play well with others
definitely a raccoon, skunks are not meant to be kept inside, because they can spray you. Raccoons are also trainable.
I would personally choose a raccoon, although they seem more agressive, a skunk is stinky!
i get a raccoon out of those choices ... but i would get a ferret
i would say a raccoon. skunks will stink up your home
