How do you remove the essence of skunk from everything?

From my dog, my house, my car.How do you remove the essence of skunk from everything?
Good luck honey....we had one spray our dog through the sliding glass dining room doors....ended up having to replace the entire floor and sub-floor to get rid of the smell!!

To neutralize or deodorize skunk spray, the chemicals in the secretion must be changed to a different type of molecule. Tomato juice does not work (see below for an explanation).

For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. After 5 minutes rinse the animal with water. Repeat if necessary. The mixture must be used after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time. DO NOT STORE IN A CLOSED CONTAINER - it releases oxygen gas so it could break the container. This mixture may bleach the pet's hair. I have heard of one black Labrador retriever that was chocolate colored after this treatment. (Paul Krebaum's Recipe from Chemical %26amp; E ngineering News , October 18, 1993, p. 90).

Some additional tips. Do this outside so the volatile skunk spray does not contaminate your house. To remove residual skunk odor from your clothes and any towels or rags used in this clean up procedure, wash them with one cup of liquid laundry bleach per gallon of water.

For buildings, decks, etc., a solution of liquid laundry (Chlorox庐) bleach (1 cup per gallon) will work. CAUTION - THIS MAY BLEACH THE BUILDINGS, DECKS, ETC. Try it on a small area if bleaching may be a problem. The bleach must come in contact with the spot where the secretion was sprayed Repeated applications may be necessary for large amounts of the skunk spray. DO NOT USE THIS ON PETS. It will not work for skunk spray that has drifted over a large area or is trapped in a house. Only time and adequate ventilation will help in this case.

Why tomato juice is believed to eliminate skunk odor. Bathing an animal in tomato juice seems to work because at high doses of skunk spray the human nose quits smelling the odor (olfactory fatigue). When this happens, the odor of tomato juice can easily be detected. A person suffering olfactory fatigue to skunk spray will swear that the skunk odor is gone and was neutralized by the tomato juice. Another person coming on the scene at this point will readily confirm that the skunk spray has not been neutralized by the tomato juice. How do you remove the essence of skunk from everything?
Tomato juice, or they make a product, available at most supermarkets and hardware stores called ';skunk-off'; thats supposed to do it...
Bath the dog in tomatoe juice, the other stuff Im not sure
Try washing the dog in tomato juice. Leave the juice on for 5 minutes, then wash off. As for anything else I don't know.
Tomato juice - bathe in it. You'll need a lot.

Not sure if it will work on your car - might just make things worse, there.

Best wishes and God bless.
natures miracle skunk odor removal . u can get it at petsmart.com
tomato juice, or ZERO ODOR spray
kill the foolish skunk (just kidding, I love all animals)
umm... tamato juice i think
Bathe in tomato juice. It will work for you and the dog. The car and house I'm not to sure about. Call a pet store or a vet. They may be able to help you. My sympathies.
tomato paste?
Tomato juice. Give the dog and you a bath in it. (separately, of course. ) The house, if you mean around the outside of it, the odor will disipate reasonably soon. Your car? I'm at a loss, but I would try vinegar. After that, I'd try Fabreeze.
I've always heard tomato juice, but I can't say I've ever had to try it. Good Luck, stinky, I hope you smell better.
I know tomato soup baths for your dog. I dunno how to deal with your house, but the carwash could probably get the smell out of your car.

Sorry about that skunk attack. ^^;;
Go to your local vets or pet supply store and they have a product called skunk be gone...works really nice.

You can try perfume but sometimes that makes it worse. I've always just used vinegar until it goes away. Will take about a week.

Guess the pup had a great time with the fluid drive kitty. We have had tons of those...tomatoe juice and vinegar work good if you can't get to the vet. Have to poor a bunch on and let it sit...dogs hate it!

Try odor be gone from Sams it comes in a gallon jug and you dilute it and spray it on the fabrics and etc. I have used it on the dogs in the past...not a lot however, I'm afraid of chemicals and their skin.

Good luck...tell the pup ';no more fluid drive kitty's';
tomato juice take a bath in it and give your dog one in it too
tomato juice
Jenifer B.is right saw it on an episode of mythbusters once. They put to the test all the things that people say that are suppouse to work to get rid of the smell. The hydrogen peroxide and baking soda worked the best. They even used it on themselves. Hope it works.

Have fun.
Dawn dish soap and vinegar.....Dawn removes oils, which is what skunk is..and the vinegar neutrilizes the scent..
Old southern remedy... and it works...

Tomato juice.

Bath the dog in it...

Bath yourself in it...

Wash your car with it...

as for interior of car...

Get a bowl and slice a couple of apples into like 6 pieces each.... put the pieces in the bowl and let the bowl sit in your car over night... as long as possible...

The apple pieces absorb the smell (also works well with nicotene)...

Good Luck!

P.S. I just read the persons quote regarding TOmato juice NOT working... sorry, but I've SEEN it with mine eyes.... it does work...

Here's another one... I gaurentee...

Got Hic-ups?

Eat a spoonful of jelly.

I swear to God on high.... boom, instantly... gone.

That one was free... no charge...
i heard you had to take a bath in tomato paste...or soup.
There are commercial skunk scent removal products that are very effective. Tomato juice is no more effective than soap and water. I feel for you..I've been there.
there is a skunk remover sold by pet co. never used it though.
