How long does it take for the skunk scent to go away after your dog gets skunked?

She had the whole shampoo/anti-skunk thing. But it keeps coming out again. Urg.How long does it take for the skunk scent to go away after your dog gets skunked?
In a bucket, mix:

* 1 quart of FRESH hydrogen peroxide (available at your local drugstore or grocery store in the health care aisle)

* 1/4 cup baking soda

* 1 teaspoon liquid soap

The mixture will bubble. Thoroughly wet the victim in this mixture, taking care to keep it out of the eyes. Wash the dog with the mixture as if it were shampoo while it is bubbling. Rinse the dog and repeat. Be careful not to contaminate the rinse water.

The soap breaks down the oil in which the odor is suspended, and the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda neutralize the scent. Do not premix the solution or store this potion in a bottle (the bubbling would cause it to explode).How long does it take for the skunk scent to go away after your dog gets skunked?
Unfortunately, it takes about 2 to 3 months. My dog (German Shephard) was sprayed and it lingered for at least this amount of time. Everytime they get wet, it also surfaces. Be patient, it will go away.
This happened to my dogs. We had to get special shampoo from the vet. It was a little expensive but you will probably have extra in case it happens again.
you gotta bathe him in tomato juice--just like people. remember the dog can smell it more than you.
maggiesmom has given you THE MOST effective de-skunker there is!

I have used it myself in my grooming shop, works EVERY TIME!

Myth Busters did a de-skunking episode, they used tomatoe juice, just made a mess, didn't get rid of the odor.

Vinegar and water douche, made them smell like vinegar and skunk.

And then they used the Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap mix, it was the only thing that worked.

As I said before, I have used it and it does work.

You don't want to wet the dog before you apply the mixture as the water will carry the oil closer to the skin.
your poor dog. yaknow what I heard that totally makes sense. put her in the bath and saturate her from head to toe with plain vinegar and water douche. apparently it neutralizes the odor. unless you know the proper dillution with the vinegar and water, I wouldnt try mixing it myself.

I've actually heard about this a couple of times and those that recommended it swore by it. cant hurt.
keep her outside for a week
