Whats the best way to get rid of skunks and the skunk smell?

I have a stupid dog that really likes skunks. She has the tendancy to run right up behind them and get sprayed directly in the face. She recently got sprayed again. Does anyone know the best way to get rid of the skunk smell on dogs, carpets, etc. And does anyone know how to keep skunks off of your property?Whats the best way to get rid of skunks and the skunk smell?
If your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, put him into the bathtub with tomato juice in it.Whats the best way to get rid of skunks and the skunk smell?
You're going to think this is really weird, but to get the skunk smell off of your dog pour douches on it.

Like cheap dollar store douche kits...

Works like a charm =)

Employ an Irish gippo, They smell so bad that even skunks would scarpper
Well- with my experience- I would get my dog in the bathtub- while in my bathing suit and rinse him like crazy. I would use Vinegar(be careful not to get into the eyes) Tomato Juice and Dawn Dish soap alternately. Rinse and rinse and rinse. We got rid of our skunks by puttin ex-lax in their den. Havet had a problem since and that was about 5 years ago.
Most dogs learn after the first encounter with a skunk. Your pup is the dimmest bulb in the pack, isn't she?

Go to the drug store and buy up all the Vinegar Douche that there is (feminine hygiene aisle). That'll work without turning your dog or your carpet red, like tomato products will.

As for keeping skunks off your property, skunks eat grubs. So either you treat your lawn and kill the grubs, or you live with the skunks. In which case, I would then strongly recommend you keep your dog on a leash!
Scatter moth balls (harmless to enviornment) around to keep them away. A vinegar/tomato juice bath should get the odor from your dog. Water and vinegar should remove the odor from your carpet.
Ok. first of all that is all sort of bull...I try that all, last winter my dog got sprayed, DONT BRING it into the house! I knwo what Im saying. It might make someone vomit.

Now, we tried tomato and all that, but what really helped was this, a teaspoon of ';detergent'; hopefully you have some that is not to harsh, 2 liters of water(warm), Shampoo and conditioner, cause if you already tried to put tomato juice, the dog is either going to scratch like crazy or smell like skunk with ketchup, a cup of Baking soda, a touch of white vinegar. And that should do the trick.
Tomato juice DOESN'T work.

SHAMPOO RECIPE

Blue Dawn dish washing liquid

Add hydrogen peroxide to Dawn until it is the consistency of shampoo

Stir in three tablespoons of Baking Soda

Use like any shampoo product!

Removing Skunk Smell From Rugs and Furniture****We have been told that if

you have that skunk smell on rugs or upholstery that this really works:

Go to any Dollar Store and purchase cans of Bissell brand foam upholstery

%26amp; rug cleaner

Spray on and leave foam to dry overnight

Vacuum!

SMELL IS GONE!
Use a natural lemon spray or make your own. As for the skunks use a 12 gauge (lol).
Bathing in tomato juice helps cut the smell.

I've heard placing onions around the edge of your property helps keep skunks away, but don't know if this is really true.
I think I remember from somewhere to bathe or wash whatever has the smell in tomato juice. ^^
Tomato juice to get rid of the smell on the dog- bath him in it. Carpet I have no idea- maybe vinegar? As for keeping them out of your yard- good luck. I had a neighbor who was having a skunk problem, they actually came in the house- animal control wouldn't do anything as they are wild animals, was told she couldn't shoot them (some silliness about discharging firearms in a residential neighborhood) seemed the only option was paying the critter trapper 50 bucks each to trap and relocate the little stinkers.
