How do you get skunk smell off your dog?

We just got our dog last night, we brought him home %26amp; he took off after a skunk in the woods. He's a white lab 1year old. When he came back he stunk just terrible! I did give him a bath with a hose %26amp; dog shampoo but he still smells especially in his face. I need help!!!! ThanksHow do you get skunk smell off your dog?
Skunks can create a sticky mess; you'll need

Quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.

Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).

1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda

1 teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap

1 pair of plastic or latex gloves

Be sure you bathe the dog outside or, if it's too dark or cold, in the bathroom with the door closed and window opened.

Combine the ingredients in an open container (do not store in a sealed bottle--it will explode).

Using gloves, wash your dog with lukewarm water and the mixture while the mixture is bubbling. Work the mixture well into the fur.

Be sure to concentrate on the area that was sprayed.

Keep mixture away from your dog's face and eyes (it's a harsh solution). (If your dog has been sprayed in the face, try Tricotine Liquid Douche Concentrate or any over-the-counter douche.)

Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes or so before rinsing off.

Rinse the dog with lukewarm tap water. Don't wash the mixture into your dog's eyes (use a washcloth to cover the eyes if you're rinsing the head).

After bathing, check your dog's eyes. If they are red and watering, your dog may have taken a direct hit in the face. Skunk spray won't blind the dog, but it's very painful. Contact a vet.

You can also contact your vet for skunk wash - most keep it readily available for situations of this nature...How do you get skunk smell off your dog?
Easiest solution: wash him with tomato juice. LOTS of tomato juice, wash him several times, and then wash with his regular shampoo. My poodle gets sprayed at least once ever two months, from chasing skunks, and this works perfectly, especially on his thick coat.

Mix about 4 cups of hydrogen peroxide with 4 cups of water, about 1/2 cup of baking soda, and a couple teaspoons of liquid dishwashing detergent. Apply to the dry dog with a sponge (do not spray it just pour over the dog and then use a sponge to get around the face, also you can put mineral oil in the eyes to keep them from getting harmed from the peroxide), let sit for about 15-20 minutes, and then rinse well. You may have to do it a couple of times, but it works much much better than tomato juice. Really all that the tomato juice will do is make the dog smell like skunky ketchup.
Baking soda, peroxide and dawn dishwashing liquid. This works 10 times better than tomato sauce or juice. I just went through this with my dog 2 weeks ago. I tried everything under the sun. Trust me, it works great!
well, my dad is a vet, and at his clinic, they sell this stuff called skunk off, and we have used it on my dog before, and it works ok, but not the best. it is worth a try. Also, try giving him a bath in tomato juice, sometimes that works....i also think they have recipes online for special shampoos for dogs who get sprayed with skunks...hop i helped :p
Water brings out the smell some more. I'm not sure what gets rid of it, but whenever I bathed my dog (after she got skunked), it just made her smell worse....

Good luck getting it out!

(By the way, the tomato juice thing doesn't work. It just tints your dog's hair)
take your dog to petsmart. i was a bather there and we have a deskunking shampoo! its not a rip off! it really works. i know. the price range is around $25 for the breed and $5 dollars extra for the special shampoo! so thats all! :] hope i helped!
Mythbusters did this one. Tomato juice immersion and comb-through worked to some degree. A mixture of liquid dishwashing detergent, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda worked even better--and beat out the commercial products made to remove skunk odor from pets.
pour vinegar all over him and rinse... for the face put it on a cloth and wipe his face. I know this works because I use to have barn dogs in Colo and they got into it with the skunks regularly...and no one could stand being around the dog.
Bathe the dog in tomato sauce. Not juice make sure it is a can of sauce. not spaghetti sauce just plain ordinary tomato sauce.
The one thing that really truly absolutely works is Skunk Off.

The home remedies will come back on a damp day, for months.
Tomato juice. Lots of tomato juice. And a vinegar rinse.
my granpa got peed on by a skunk and he had to bathe in tomato juice. the smell went away.
Wash him with tomato juice. He's gonna be orange. At least he won't stink.

Good luck!
use tomato sauce. :) good luck!
