How do you humanely get rid of a skunk?

I live in a small town and we have a skunk that is digging holes in our yard searching for grub worms. How do I get it to stop doing that? How do you humanely get rid of a skunk?
Ok try this, it worked for me.

I had a skunk under my back concrete porch and the dog kept surprising it - Getting skunked at night. We were told to do the following:

1) Get a rag and tie it in a knot

2) Put that in a ziplock bag

3) Pour ammonia on so it soaks it all up but not so much that the bag has a puddle in it.

4) Ziplock the bag and tie a long rope on it

5) Poke holes in the bag and toss it into the skunks den during the daytime.

6) Put flour down at the front of the hole.

The idea is that the skunk will think some other noisy stinky animal has taken over its den and since it won't go away the skunk will leave. You'll know the skunk has left when you stop seeing footprints in the flour in the morning. Then use the rope to pull it back out of the hole and then pack the hole with some kindof metal mesh, rocks and the like that the skunk can't dig into when it tries to return.

That being said, removing the source of the food, installing a sprinkler with a motion detector on it, installing motion detector lights works, and finally putting out a trap, catching it and releasing it far away also works (Its also A great way to get skunked). They are actually valuable little pests, but they smell too bad. I tend to just turn on my sprinklers anytime I

smell them.

blow it's head off
If your skunk is after grubs then get rid of the grubs. Go to Lowes, in the garden department you'll find a product that will kill grubs. Put it on your lawn and your grub problem will go away. Once the kitchen is closed, the Skunk will go somewhere else to eat.
ignore it!
Grub X will kill the grubs- get rid of the food %26amp; the skunk will leave for greener pastures. Apply in spring %26amp; fall. May take more than one application the first time.
You could get a humane animal trap -- catch and release. However, you might get sprayed, and you'd have to release very far away from your home to prevent it from coming back....
A shotgun is about as humane as you can get. Here in North Dakota skunks are the main carriers of rabies and lethal mange. I like the ammonia and flour idea, I'll have to give it a try next time someone in town has a skunk, I usually recommend moth balls. DO NOT try to live trap a skunk, once in the trap you'll wonder who's got who! Getting a pissed off skunk out of a trap is an experience you'll not soon forget. RScott
