Is it legal to keep a skunk as a domestic house pet?

I live in Ohio and I saw in our local Craigslist--'pets' category, that someone is trying to re-home their descented skunk for a $150 fee (!!),who is litter trained and sleeps in a crate at night!I never heard of this.Is it legal to keep a skunk as a domestic house pet?
Its different in every state. Even if it is legal there can be restrictions so you need to contact your county. Permits are required after you buy your skunk. DNR may come out to inspect. So you have keep the receipt to prove the skunk did not come from the wild and you should buy from a licensed dealer, breeder, or pet store.

In California, where I live, buying a skunk is illegal. In Ohio, Its legal. :)Is it legal to keep a skunk as a domestic house pet?
Skunks can actually make very good pets as long as they're trained and are kept well-socialized. They're very intelligent, inquisitive and cute. It's illegal to own skunks in most of the U.S. because of the high possibility of spreading rabies, although some states have exceptions. Ohio is one of the exceptions, and you have to have a permit to own one; and possibly a different permit to sell one.
You need to call your local DNR and ask them. Laws are different for each state and each county within that state. So your state may say it is legal, but your county may not allow them. It is not that hard just search ';Ohio DNR'; in yahoo and the contact info will be right there.
I live in Delaware, oh and all the require for a pet skunk is a $10 yearly license fee and a rabies shot. Skunks actually make great pets! I think they have a ferret personality. They are very smart and very social!
